Alert: Cervical Screening Extended Intervals and Digital Assets

Important update to Cervical Screening in England
The NHS is changing the cervical screening programme to make it more personalised and effective.
From now on, if your cervical screening test is negative for HPV (human papillomavirus), you'll be invited for screening every 5 years instead of every 3. This is because HPV testing is very accurate and the risk of developing cervical cancer after a negative HPV result is very low.
If HPV is found, you’ll continue to be checked more often - usually every year - to make sure any changes are caught early and treated if needed.
These changes bring England in line with Scotland and Wales and help focus support where it’s needed most, while avoiding unnecessary tests for those at low risk.
Cervical screening saves lives. If you’re due a test, please don’t delay - it's quick, free, and could stop cancer before it starts. We can offer evening and weekend appointments if you need one.
If you have any questions, please contact the practice.
