HRT Prescription Prepayment Certificates (HRT PPC)
From the 1 April, the Government is launching the HRT Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC) to reduce prescription costs for women receiving Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).
The HRT PPC will be available to buy in one single payment online at www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/hrt-ppc, or in-person at some pharmacies. You can call 0300 330 2089 for help and support.
Before buying an HRT PPC, you should check:
- If you’re eligible for free NHS prescriptions using the eligibility checker at www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/check
- That your medicine is covered by the HRT PPC. For a list of eligible HRT medication, visit: www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/hrt-ppc-medicines
- Whether a 3 or 12 month PPC is more suitable for you. It covers all NHS prescriptions, not just HRT items. Visit: https://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/help-nhs-prescription-costs/
Prescription charges and Prescription Prepayment Certificates (PPC)
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
A PPC could save you money if you pay for your NHS prescriptions.
The certificate covers all your NHS prescriptions for a set price. You will save money if you need more than 3 items in 3 months, or 11 items in 12 months.
The prescription charge in England is £9.90. A PPC costs:
- £32.05 for 3 months
- £114.50 for 12 months
You can buy a PPC:
- Online by visiting https://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/help-nhs-prescription-costs/
- In-person at some pharmacies
If you need extra help call the PPC advice line on 0300 330 1341.
What to do with old medicines
Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
